Nowy, lipcowy numer Wine Spectatora z July 31, 2012. Tematem naczelnym kalifornijskie Chardonnay. U nas oprócz Mondaviego (Dobre Wino?) można się wybrać po Kistlera do Mielża, ale płacić za drugą etykietę les Noisetiers, kojarzącą się z orzechem, ok. 340zł to gruba przesada. Oprócz 94PP dla Carneros Kistlera z Hudson Vineyard, ciekawa nazwa Shibumi Knoll, czyli Austriak na wakacjach w Japonii;-) W każdym razie ten Shibumi Knoll w Buena Tierra Vineyard 96PP Chardonay odpalił, u nas ani słychu, ani widu. No i Aubert (ale nie Villaine, a Mark) w Konsgaard (średniowieczne etykiety fajne!) tutored by Helen Turley, tą od Zina za 18%, obecnie w Marcassin (etykiety ze zwierzakami).

Zacznijmy jednak od Syrah. Bardzo wysokie oceny dla win Gangloffa z Cote Rotie. A tak naprawdę to od pary Gangloffów: Mathilde & Yves. U nas brak tych win. Etykiety z gołą babą idealne dla miłośnika Parkera Deo;-) La Barbarine to delikatne Cote Rotie, bez skojarzeń z parkerowskim dżemem. Tym razem WS poleca inne cuvee - Serene Noire z 2009 za 120$. Warm ganache & mesquite (na razie nic nie rozumiem, może ktoś pomoże?) aromas wchich meld into core of mulled plume, fig & anise flavours (a jednak dżem i do tego mulący;-) Long silky finish, white pepper weavering in and out. Ja raczej in. Podobnie widziałem co do jedwabistości la Barbarine. 96PP żeby nie było! Dla odniesienia la Mordoree Chapoutiera 97PP też z 2009. Dobrze widziany jest przez Parkera lub jego adwokatów tradycyjnie Rostaing, którego wina znalazły się w pl dzięki 101win. Porządna robota, mimo jakiejś wtopy z wadliwą flaszką jak widać. We now produce The Judge, Chardonnay, VioRous, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon in our underground winery — a cave dug into the volcanic rock, high on the eastern rim of the Napa Valley where we have planted a spectacular mountain vineyard. We also direct the farming under long-term contracts on several perfect acres in the Napa Carneros and near the winery. These intensely farmed, shy-bearing vineyards and our traditional low-intervention winemaking produce powerful, graceful wines — vivid expressions of vineyard and variety. Production is limited to what we, with our son Alex, can make with our own hands.

Marcassin, także nieobecny w Polsce, pojawił się na SW jako Richebourg DRC na steroidach;-) Richebourg DRC na stereoidach (śmieszne, że zacząłem opis od siły bez pakowania) wygląda natomiast tak, a zowie się Marcassin 2000, Blue Slide Ridge, piękne mają oni w tym USA etykiety, ech... wino4523#17708

Kistler z kolei pojawił się na SW w takim oto kontekście wina oznaczonego liczbą 8 z Reserve Vineyard 7&8 2009 Napa Valley Spring Mountain: Przy tym winie zacząłem tęsknić do Kistlera, wg Wojtka Bońkowskiego to zupełnie inny styl, świeży i nieprzesadzony. Wina Kistlera dostępne u Mielża, drugie wino les Noisetiers chyba lepszym i tańszym zakupem, choć nie zbliżymy się dzięki niemu do tego co znaczy w Kalifornii bold and beautiful, ale przyznać trzeba, że w przypadku Vineyard 8 też poznamy ten punkt odniesienia (czy benchmark, którego Rurale ciągle poszukuje) jedynie połowicznie. Etykieta Kistlera dość surowa, ale nie wiem czy tak jak wina? PS. Jakie Chardonnay czy też Pinot pojawił się w rozmowie w taksówce w filmie Bezdroża? Tam chyba o musujące jakieś chodziło.

Cabernet Franc tematem tego Wine Spectatora, oprócz Chardonnay oraz Syrah. Nie wiem jak wypadła degustacja Macchiole w Wine Cornerze? Był ktoś może? Rzucili czysty Cab Franc Paleo od Macchiole? No dobrze wiemy, że nad Loarą Cabernet Franc dojrzewa pięknie, a i za młodu może zachwycić. Co więcej Centrum Wina dla Horecy(ki?) miało w ofercie kilka fajnych butelek Chinon w dobrej cenie. No dobrze, ale jak Wine Spectator to o zamorskim Cabernet Franc mowa. Próbowałem jedno od Roberta Sinskey bez uniesień, ale obok endemicznego Belliviere miało ciężko. To właśnie Carneros w Napa Valley uznawane jest za dobre siedlisko dla Cabernet Franc. PS. Ups. Zdaje się, że to był dodatek Decantera a propos California Dream i o tym już pisałem w tamtym kontekście. Cóż puszczam i tu w końcu to tylko Sunny California.

Przypadkiem Jancis Robinson próbowała kilka roczników wspomianego czystego Cabernet Franc Paleo od le Macchiole i opisała to na swojej, różowej stronie, skąd widać, że teraz Paleo czystym i szczerym Cabernet Franc się stało, a my próbowaliśmy je w wersji z fotki jeszcze gdy na Cabernet Sauvignon był oparty:

LE MACCHIOLE, Bolgheri
Cinzia Merli and family take the single-varietal route, concentrating on bottlings of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah designed to express the terroir of their particular densely planted corner of Bolgheri, just an umbrella pine forest away from Antinori's Guado al Tasso estate. They have moved to simple concrete fermenters shown above left in a shape that is currently hugely fashionable here.

Le Macchiole, Paleo 2008 IGT Toscana 16 Drink 2009-2010
Sauvignon with about 40% Chardonnay. Barrel fermented. Quite deep gold. Relatively rich and sweet but with (just) enough floral acidity. 13.5%

Le Macchiole 2008 Bolgheri 16.5 Drink 2010-2012
5% Sangiovese, 15% Syrah 30% Cabernet Franc, 50% Merlot. Bright crimson. Sweet and fresh and mellow. Pretty strong on the sweet, malty Ovomaltine notes. Lots of pleasure.

Le Macchiole, Paleo 2007 IGT Toscana 17 Drink 2013-2020
100% Cabernet Franc. Very ripe nose. Mildly aromatic but with lots of sweetness, even a hint of oak still. But very well made and balanced. Mild and more fragrant and polished than a Cabernet Sauvignon would be. A little bit of alcohol on the end. Pretty marked tannins at the moment. A slight green note at the end.

Le Macchiole, Scrio 2007 IGT Toscana 17.5 Drink 2012-2018
100% Syrah. Plants from Hermitage, they say. There’s a slightly oaky note on this as well as on Paleo 2007 at first but it dissipated. Some dry leatheriness on the end – muscular north-Rhône characteristics. Pretty and pure. UK importer Patrick Sandeman says previous vintages were always a bit heavy – this the best vintage to date, much more delicate.
Very fine. Sweet liquorice. 13.5%

Le Macchiole, Messorio 2007 IGT Toscana 17 Drink 2013-2020
100% Merlot. Rich and ripe then lifted. Lots of pleasure here. Sweet and transparent. Very far from the sort of Masseto model. Mineral. This wine is usually pretty closed at this age apparently. There is definite sweetness here. From 2007 they have been even more vigilant on the provenance of oak and the period of oak ageing. Untoasted oak. Some spice but pretty linear and slightly inky.

Le Macchiole, Paleo 2004 IGT Toscana 18 Drink 2008-2017
Cinzia thinks the best expression of Cabernet Franc in Bolgheri, even better than 2001. Deep crimson. Lovely warm pencil-shavings fragrance – very Cabernet Franc – then very, very sweet start and then it all tightens up as though with a drawstring. Very impressive! Pure, lovely balance. Tea leaves. Very long and complete. Luscious.

Le Macchiole, Paleo 2001 IGT Toscana 17 Drink 2007-2014
First vintage with 100% Cabernet Franc. Big and burly, without the alluring perfume of the 2004. Ripe and sweet – then acidity – but those two components are still a little separate. They used 600 bottles of this as samples to try to build the reputation of Cabernet Franc in Italy where it was initially regarded as inferior. Hint of mint.

Le Macchiole, Paleo 1999 IGT Toscana 16.5 Drink 2005-2012
Cabernet Franc with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Hot vintage. Blackish crimson. Burly, almost burnt nose. Tannins a little rustic, a little bit awkward. Very pointed acid and tannin.

Le Macchiole, Paleo 1995 IGT Toscana 17 Drink 2002-2012
90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Sangiovese. Pretty hot. September rain delayed harvest. Very dark ruby. Hot, almost baked nose. Nice balance and freshness on the palate – really a very attractive blend. Interesting! Subtle. But slightly cheesey. Very different from the modern, super-clean precision in today’s Paleo.

Świetny artykuł z Marcassin w pdf-ie: (pralinka)

Hellen Turley winemakerka z Marcassin wyróżniona przez Wine Spectatora. Piszą, że inne wyróżnione kobiety ciężko sobie wyobrazić w pracy jak np. baronową Phillippine de Rothschild (Mouton Rothschild), czy greczynkę Corrine Mentzelopoulos (Chateau Margaux), że o Joan Dillon nie wspomnę, bo jej nie znam;-)

Dalej piszą, żeby Randal Grahm (piewca win naturalnych i zdolny marketingowiec, filozof i winemaker) wbił sobie do głowy (przydałoby się niektórym naszym redaktorom), że formacja skalna w podłożu winnicy odpowiada za przepuszczalność wody, a nie mineralność win;-)

Warto przeczytać do końca, bo widać, że jakiś gościu co się zna co nieco to pisał, a nie znużony redaktor. A Marcassin lepsze w 2006 niż la Tache wino645#44152 Jeszcze trochę kontrowersyjnych ocen samego Marcassin:

Extraordinary blueberry, raspberry, floral, and forest floor aromas jump from the glass of the 2006 Pinot Noir Blue Slide Ridge. This wine will be a huge success when released given its burgeoning complexity and amazing texture as well as richness. 97 points

And here’s Allen Meadow’s review of the same wine, but the 2005:

Burnt vinyl, alcohol and menthol aromas push the fruit to the background to reveal extremely dense and suave big-bodied flavors that coat the palate on the hot and short finish. This is difficult to like and it’s hard to see it aging well. 79 points

Incidentally, Meadows found the 2006 DRCs “indeed quite impressive as the natural elegance of the vintage and the traditional vinification approach melded to produce wonderfully aromatic and refined wines.” He called the 06 La Tache a “don’t miss!”
